City Center's popular two-week dance inventory has a local feel this year. Two participants have long associations with the venue: as part of its final Legacy tour, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company presents the NYC premiere of Xover, Merce's final collaboration with Robert Rauschenberg. Edward Villella, whose illustrious NYCB career began at City Center, brings his Miami City Ballet there for The Golden Section from the Twyla Tharp/David Byrne Catherine Wheel. Recent Tony winners are represented with more respect than at the controversial award ceremony. Members of Fela!-mastermind Bill T. Jones' company dance his 1995 Duet, and Finnish dancer/choreographer Tero Sarrinien performs Carolyn Carslon's solo Man in a Room, based on the life of Red protagonist Mark Rothko.
