New Museum First Saturdays for Families: Rivane Neuenschwander: A Day Like Any Other
Saturday Sep 4, 2010 (10am–noon)
Explore the exhibition “Rivane Neuenschwander: A Day Like Any Other” and discover how Brazilian artist Rivane Neuenschwander merges painting, photography, film, sculpture, immersive installations, and participatory actions. In her practice, Neuenschwander stresses the relationship between art and viewer by inviting the public to activate the work. Involuntary Sculptures (2001-10) presents fifteen small sculptures made out of everyday items (bottle caps, straws, small pieces of paper, etc.), constructed by people as they participate in conversations while sitting in a casual social setting, such as a café. Participate in an action-based workshop led by New Museum educators, take part in a social gathering, have a conversation with members of your family or meet new friends, and discover spontaneous sculptures you are able to create. Also, become a part of the 2003 sculpture Eu desejo o seu desejo (I Wish Your Wish), colored ribbons printed with people’s wishes, and make a wish for our future.
