Sooner or later, when everybody is over lo-fi and "textured" sounds, these two bands will reign supreme. Dutchess and the Duke are one of those bands that you see once and their ragged, folksy sound infects your brain for the next week. The Wailing Wall are carrying the torch for all of us who dork out over Neutral Milk Hotel, and anything elephant 6.

The Mercury Lounge says…

"This record was written for the studio. This record was written for Greg Ashley to record. In that sense, it was really good because we had a line to measure by: we know what we can do here," says The Dutchess and the Duke lead Jesse Lortz. He's discussing the genesis and execution of his band's sophomore record, Sunset / Sunrise, a slump-dodging opus that takes the dark, raw beauty of the band's debut and scales it up to distinctly luminescent heights, due to a graceful synthesis of painfully earned creative maturity and thoughtful production under Ashley's adroitly tuned ears.
