Following screenings at overseas festivals, Telluride, and Washington, DC, four Russian filmmakers bring their work to Tribeca. While unconnected, the shorts share themes of family and growing up. Such cinematic ideas aren't unique, but recent Russian history (plus English subtitles) provides outsiders an opportunity to appreciate these situations with renewed compassion. For Home Viewing is Mikhail Zheleznikov's visual scrapbook documenting his childhood during Soviet times, all of two decades ago. Breaking mom's curfew is the universal premise behind Tatiana Kevorkova's Spring. The young protagonist of Konstantin Smirnov's Koylan must confront the simmering anger he feels as a son, employee, and citizen. Irina Volkova's Seagulls are newlyweds getting acquainted with each other.
