Scopophilia brings Nan Goldin back to New York for her first show in this city since 2007. The exhibition presents over 400 photographs from Goldin’s career, combining her autobiographical images with new photographs of paintings and sculpture taken from the Louvre’s collection — Goldin was given free reign to photograph works in the Louvre Museum. Organized around themes of love and desire, Scopophilia, which means the "love of looking," bears Goldin's trademark intensely personal viewpoint. In her own words it is about, "the idea of taking a picture of a sculpture or a painting in an attempt to bring it to life.”
