“A rarely seen TV relic from the late 1980's, A Muppet Family Christmas screens as part of the Museum of the Moving Image's fun and nostaglic Jim Henson's Fantastic World exhibit (recently extended through March 4th, 2012). This celeb-free special sees Fozzie Bear, with muppet gang in tow, heading out to his mother's farm to surprise her on Christmas Eve. Once there, muppet worlds collide, as members of Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street join in the festivities; Jim Henson even makes a cameo. Unlike the edited DVD floating around, the version showing today originally aired as an episode of The Magical World of Disney in 1989 and includes all of the songs, from We Need a Little Christmas to the muppet babies rendition of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town. Screening as a companion is A Classic Henson Holiday, a collection of clips from other holiday shows.”
What better way to spend the holidays than to immerse yourself in Muppet holiday moments. Visit the Jim Henson exhibition, then catch A Muppet Family Christmas, the 1989 television special about a holiday gathering at Fozzie’s mother’s country house. It will be shown with the compilation "A Classic Henson Holiday," a collection of the finest moments from various holiday shows.
