“Maybe you know Peter Sotos from his '80s zine Pure, the subject of which was serial killers and their surrounding mythology and was described as "unhypocritical adulation" of violence and power. And that all started while he was still a student at the Art Institute of Chicago. His writings since then have focused on sadism and sexual crimes as well as the attendant media hypocrisy in their reportage. Sotos' reading is sure to be thought-provoking, following which Stereogum's Brandon Stosuy engages Sotos in a discussion. And Stosuy is no stranger to controversial subject matter. We last saw him participate in a panel at Housing Works where conversation turned at one point to his interview with black metal enfant terrible Varg Vikernes soon after Vikernes' release from jail. You can expect a night of extreme, good tastes, a demonstration of the connection between dark experimental music and fine art and a deeply curious discussion with an unexpected turn or two. And if you can't make it tonight, Peter Sotos and Brandon Stosuy meet up again tomorrow in Far Rockaway with Yellow Tears and Pharmakon performing.”
Note:
Peter Sotos reads and talks with Brandon Stosuy on two nights, Friday 2/25 and Saturday 2/26. The Saturday discussion is followed by a performance by Mark McCoy, Yellow Tears and Pharmakon. Both are free.
