As huge stand-up comedy fans, we've long adored Bill Hicks. If you're not familiar, Hicks was a ribald comic who took on the idiosyncrasies, hypocrisies, and pitfalls of the mainstream values tied to institutions from government and religion to consumerism. At its lightest, his humor could be called irreverent, but Hicks most often pushed far beyond mere irreverence. Tragically, he died from pancreatic cancer at just 32, right as he was starting to emerge from the underground comedy scene into brighter lights. His story (and his routine) deserves to be told and re-told, and we're thrilled that it has been executed so marvelously in American: The Bill Hicks Story. This doc gives you an at times heartbreaking look at the true genius of Bill Hicks, and whether you're a die-hard fan or new to his material, we can almost guarantee that you'll appreciate it.
