“In its fifth year running, Make Music New York is back to bring the five boroughs the finest in free concerts and musical events. Heralding in the summer on its first official day, MMNY offers a variety of musical styles and skills (anyone who wants to participate is welcome) in public spaces like stoops, cemeteries, and parks. Special programs include Punk Island (Governor's Island overrun with 50+ punk bands), Second Line Down the High Line (a New Orleans-style brass band parade), and Mass Appeal (17 instrument-specific communal jam sessions starring everything from gongs and violas to iPhones and guitars). With over 1,000 events and performances, New York once again explodes with music on a day dedicated to just that.”
