“Between Chorus lamentations and outraged commentary by Poseidon and Athena, Trojan Women is essentially a series of monologues by the "high women" of Troy sold into slavery following their city's destruction. Wide Eyed Productions effectively and movingly uses Euripides' play structure, having prophetess Cassandra, noble widow Andromache, and finally Queen Hecuba tell their shocking stories and enter exile by exiting the theatre. The lasting power of Trojan Women goes beyond losing family and freedom: customs, rituals, and memories of this conflict become a frenzied, complete oral history. This production's details, such as Cassandra's half-straitjacket/half-wedding gown, the chocolate bar given to Andromache's son before his murder, and each Chorus woman touching Hecuba's hand before taking their leave, are devastating.”
Note:
There is an additional 2pm matinee on Sunday, July 17.
