If you want to escape the concrete jungle, but just can't, might we suggest a festival which features films that transport you the world's non-urban feeling nooks and crannies. Serving up its seventh edition, Rural Route's line-up includes indies, world docs, green-themed films and an curious assortment of shorts. Opening with "Someone to Watch" filmmaker Mike Ott's Littlerock, other festival highlights include The Greenhornes, a portrait of today's young American farmer, and Truck Farm, which looks at urban agriculture. The series closes with a screening of two shorts programs, co-curated by Rooftop Films, in the City's largest Green Roof Farm, Brooklyn Grange.

Museum of the Moving Image says…

The Rural Route Film Festival, created in 2003, explores many interpretations of “rural,” highlighting films that deal with people and places outside of the bustle of the city. From a new film that provides a fresh perspective on the American West through the eyes of a Japanese tourist, to a documentary about a nomadic family in the highest, coldest, poorest, largest, and most remote county in Sichuan Province, China, the festival brings a taste of the heartland, and exposure for emerging independent filmmakers.
