“Alchemy, the process of turning base metals into gold, is the starting point for the group show Alchemy in the West Village featuring work by 18 artists: Keith Sonnier, Thomas Beale, Lucas Blalock, Nick Doyle, Adam Fuss, GAINES, Elissa Goldstone, Eve Andrée Laramée, Eva Lewitt, Dylan Lynch, Thomas McDonell, Casey Neistat, Leslie Raeside, Jason Reppert, Alex Rickard, Michael St. John, William Stone, and Rob Wynne. The show, at the nomadic 7Eleven gallery, presents artwork by a mix of established and emerging talent some of which directly reference alchemy, others of which draw more oblique parallels to the practice transforming the elements of nature into art or using science to create natural forms. Take the opportunity to see what Keith Sonnier's been up to and get yourself acquainted with Eva Lewitt, Dylan Lynch, and Rob Wynne. With a live performance by the Gaines Brothers on homemade instruments, a staged volcanic erpution, and a live guitar battle between Jesus and Dionysus as performed by two members of the metal band Gypsyhawk, we encourage you to make it out to the opening. And stop by the gift shop on your way out to pick up some "Salve of Beuys" and graphic bowties by Baron Von Fancy.”
