Howler are blowing up all over the UK. Hailing from Minneapolis, the indie five-piece, glued together by 19-year-old Jordan Gatesmith, sound like they were weaned on garage rock revival bands like the Strokes and the Libertines. Rough Trade caught wind of the similarities, thanks to NME journalist Jon Garrett, and snatched them up last summer. Now, after a successful tear of the British circuit opening for the Vaccines (and being named third best band of 2011 by NME), Howler are dropping their first full-length LP, challenging bands like Waaves to friendly fist fights and hell-bent on conquering the masses stateside. Jammed with guitar-driven pop hits like Back of Your Neck and Told You Once, the new record, America Give Up, has a convincing party platform. The riffs may be familiar — Elvis, Johnny Marr, and the Modern Lovers are all possible inspirations — but they're refreshed with such exuberance and swagger, we're fine to excuse it. Howler you got us, we surrender.

Howler also play Other Music on January 17 (free show), Death By Audio on January 19, and Cameo on January 20.
