“"And now for something completely different," is the best way to segue into this annual festival organized by renowned contemporary performance incubator, PS 122. For year seven, COIL hijacks several theatrical spaces throughout the month of January and fires them up with ten revolutionary works from the worlds of dance, theatre, and performance. All New York premieres, the pieces that we're particularly excited by include Young Jean Lee's 2011 Spalding Gray Award-winning gender mind-bender, Untitled Feminist Show; Mariano Pensotti's Of Montreal-soundtracked cinematic chronicle of four Argentinians, The Past is a Grotesque Animal; the TEAM's Edinburgh Fringe hit musical, which travels through time and space in the name of capitalism, Mission Drift; and Temporary Distortion's COIL-commissioned, film/performance mash-up about the NYPD, Newyorkland. And to further sell you on the COIL cause, check out the festival's twisted trailer.”
