“For their inaugural First Look series, the Museum of the Moving Image has culled a group of important and exciting films from the last year that have more or less eluded New York audiences until now. Showcasing the work of emerging and established filmmakers that seek to reinvent their craft, the ten-day program kicks off with Almayer's Folly, Chantal Akerman's cinematic adaptation of Joseph Conrad's first novel. Other highlights include Mark Jackson's Gotham Award-nominated psychological thriller Without, Johnnie To's Life Without Principle, Christoph Hochhausler's provocative The City Below, and Andrei Zvyagintsev's Elena, which features a score by Philip Glass. For some films, directors are slated to introduce or be on hand for a post-sceening Q&As.”
