“James Franco, David Wain, Kenneth Lonergan, and Aleksandr Sokurov are among those drafted by Film Comment for the magazine's annual salute to rare and underrated cinema. This year's 32-film slate covers a range of genres, from horror to comedy, and includes classics by big guns like Bergman and Fassbinder, as well as future releases by rising cadets such as Joshua Marston and Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel. Our attention is particularly drawn towards Adam Curtis' documentary All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace, the latest film byDogtooth director, Yorgos Lanthimos, Alps, and James Franco's twist on Gus van Sant, My Own Private River, which is followed by a Q&A with Franco. Also worth mention are tribute screenings to filmmaker Ken Russell and legendary indie advocate Bingham Ray, and music fan must-see, Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii (1971).”
Note:
Some screenings are followed by filmmaker Q&As, check the Film Society website for more details.
