In the middle of editing the pilot episode of "Twin Peaks," David Lynch read and fell in love with Barry Gifford’s novel Wild at Heart: The Story of Sailor and Lula, and quickly attached himself to the production that was already in the works. When Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern) hit the road to escape her psychotic mother (a sublimely lipstick-stained Diane Ladd), they dodge all kinds of creeps and stay one step ahead of hired killers. Enlisting many "Twin Peaks" actors, including Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn and Grace Zabriskie, Lynch created a pulp masterpiece of sex and violence. Director: David Lynch. 125 min. 1990. 35mm.
