We would be happy campers if Bill Callahan's baritone was the last thing we heard before we went to bed at night. Barking up a tree similar to Drag City labelmates Bonnie "Prince" Billy and the Silver Jews, the indie crooner, formerly known as Smog, has been making music for over two decades. An enigmatic storyteller, Callahan's lyrical logs float in the deep river of Americana and indie-folk. His darkly funny laments on life, love, faith, death, and America are incredibly thoughtful and benefit from repeated listening. His last release from 2011, Apocalypse, was lauded by critics and placed on several year-end lists. Tonight, Callahan, guitar in tow, invites you to huddle by his smouldering fire as he harvests selections from his expansive musical catalog.

Lincoln Center says…

He is one of the greatest lyricists of our time and a captivating performer, too, with a dry, sonorous baritone and driving, subtle guitar chords that make for a towering presence both in the studio and on stage. Callahan, who recorded for decades under the name Smog, comes to our stage to celebrate his acclaimed 2011 release, Apocalypse.
