For well over 100 years, the Metropolitan Museum has brought millennia of art to the people of New York. A veritable compendium of art history given physical form, the massive institution contains everything from ancient Egyptian treasures to the works of modern masters. It's far, far too much to take in at once — which would make regular visits a necessity even without the Met's continually impressive schedule of new exhibitions.
