The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a research unit of The New York Public Library, actively promotes the study of black history and culture, and is recognized as one of the leading institutions of its kind in the world. For more than 85 years, the Center has collected, preserved and provided access to valuable resource materials documenting black life throughout the world. The Harlem-based community landmark is a repository for holdings of over 10 million items, and offers a broad array of interpretive programs, including major exhibitions, performances, workshops, lectures, scholarly forums, and more.
