Editor's Note
Contemporary European film takes the spotlight at this festival, which showcases seventeen recent features that would be hard to see otherwise; most have low chances of US distribution despite their merit. Each film presents a unique glimpse into its director's culture. Particularly worth note are In the Basement, an uncomfortably entertaining documentary look into the basements and private lives of middle-class Austrians; Cowboys, a comedy in which Croatian miners are tasked to stage a failed director's American cowboy play; and the stunningly beautiful In the Crosswind, exploring an Estonian woman's struggle for survival during Soviet occupation in 1941.
