Singer, songwriter, and banjo wielder Alynda Lee Segarra started out as a teenage NYC runaway and now finds herself a widely celebrated Americana artist based in the hotbed of New Orleans. Her bluegrass and folk follows in the tradition of both genres, covering familiar themes and highlighting her strong voice and banjo chops. But hers is also a distinctly modern take: She and her band were crust punks before they were folkies, and nearly all of them are LGBTQ. It's proved a winning combination, one that's already sold out the Bowery Ballroom, so this Brooklyn night is one to jump on.
