Make Music Winter 2013New York
New York, NY
Winter solstice, we know it's hard competing with your brighter sibling summer, but the folks of Make Music New York, who put together the day-into-night free outdoor concerts in June, realize that the darkest of days are also cause for celebration. Over a dozen musical parades are planned, launching from locations like the High Line, BAM, Columbus Circle, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Union Square. Anyone can join in, and each parade has a different musical theme and leader. Tom Peyton is primed to conduct a symphony of bells, Patrick Grant leads a mobile electric guitar procession, and those with bicycles should head to Grand Army Plaza to be part of Merche Blasco's Blink. Riders of the G train can enjoy a tag-team string rendition of J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G major from the comfort of their subway car. Unsilent Night creator Phil Kline is also getting in on the act with a presentation of Peregrine, a participatory walking boombox piece. Check the site for the complete list of musical happenings.
