Whether you prefer Classic Swing, Disco, Salsa, or Cajun, this annual open-air participatory dance festival organized by Lincoln Center has something you can get your groove on to. Now in its 26th year, the just shy of three-week affair in a a specially designed ballroom in Damrosch Park features a different live act each night with a dance instructor on hand to teach you a few moves. Jazz singer Cécile McLorin Salvant kicks off this year’s fete backed by one of the leading authorities in classic swing, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. The evening also features a lesson in the Lindy Hop from Laura Jeffers. Other highlights include a disco night with the Loser’s Lounge performing the music of ABBA, the Hot Sardines serving up New Orleans’s jazz, and Willie Rosario y Su Orquesta dishing out the salsa on July 4th. Also slated is a screening of documentary about Doc Pomus and an evening dedicated to his music performed by Roomful of Blues. Season, six- and four-admission passes are available for those who are raring for some rug cutting.
