They include experimental new works as well as retrospective screenings of established names. The festival opens with the New York premier of director Soon-Mi Yoo's film Songs from the North, that portrays daily life under the repressive North Korean regime. It is based on three trips to North Korea. The film screens on Wednesday, November 10 at 8 pm and is followed by a Q&A with the director.
