Editor's Note

The seventy-four year old minimalist sculptor with a fondness for working with insanely large pieces of sheet metal comes to the Strand to celebrate his latest monograph, Early Work. Richard Serra, who has been feted by the MoMA twice (1986 and 2007), is one of the most important figures on the art scene today. He has produced large-scale site-specific works in settings all over the world, including Iceland, Barcelona and New Zealand. Early Work is the product of a recent show at David Zwirner gallery that focused on Serra's seminal output between 1966-1972. Tonight he gives a brief talk and signs copies. In order to attend, guests can either purchase the book or a $25 gift certificate to the Strand.
