For the next month, Picture Farm plays host to Scott Duncan’s Touba, a documentary project exploring Sufi Islam in Senegal. Including a documentary film and photographs, Duncan’s work chronicles the Grand Magal, an annual festival of the Mouride brotherhood in Senegal which finds 1 million Sufi Muslims traveling to Touba to pay homage to the life and teachings of Cheikh Amadou Bamba. The film, which earned Duncan a cinematography award at SXSW, is shot on 16mm with minimal dialogue. It screens tonight as part of the exhibit’s opening ceremonies. The accompanying photographs are on view until August 29th.
