Music, film and food lovers stuck in the city have another reason to go outside this summer, the LOT LIC Music and Film Series. Taking up residency in a lot adjacent to M. Wells Steakhouse in Long Island City, the free series, which runs until September 20, features live music every Saturday (3pm-9pm) and an eclectic assortment of films every Thursday (6pm-10pm). Brasil Summerfest producer Petrit Pula has curated the music portion, which kicks off with DFA-signed darling Sinkane, Japanese trumpeter Takuya Kuroda and DJ D-Felic. Sinkane, who has an album coming out in September, is likely to preview new tracks, like the one below. Other acts include Taylor McFerrin (8/16), Small Black and Kevin Morby (8/23), Hollis Brown (9/6), and Widowspeak/Alex Bleeker and the Freaks (9/13). As for the film proceedings, former MoMA curator Laurence Kardish has done the honors with a program that includes Chop Shop (8/7), John Water’s Polyester (8/14), The Triplets of Belleville (8/28), and Wild Style (9/18). And, since no truly great street-side fest is complete without food, M. Wells is on hand with some of their culinary offerings. Just a hop, skip and a jump from MoMA PS1, if you need a warm up to Warm Up or get shut out, you now have a back up plan.
