Editor's Note
She may be best known as the creator of the Bechdel Test, but cartoonist Alison Bechdel's talents have long reached far beyond feminist film analysis. She's published several collections of her long-running strip Dykes to Watch Out For and the 2006 graphic memoir Fun Home, about her life growing up in a funeral home with a distant but influential father. That book was adapted into a widely acclaimed off-Broadway musical of the same name, and after its sold-out run, the majority of the original cast moves uptown for a full size reprise. Led by three different versions of Bechdel at various ages, it's a thoughtful rumination on family and a young woman's search for identity and purpose.
