In the summer of 2006, Oaxaca — renowned for its legacy of vibrant culture and dazzling celebrations — became the locus of Mexico's popularly supported teachers' uprising. Vicente Fox's government opposed the protests with military force, resulting in seven months of conflict and the deaths of more than 15 people. Guillermo Gómez-Peña's La Pocha Nostra and Galería de la Raza present Oaxaca: Aquí No Pasa Nada (meaning "nothing is going on here"), in which Oaxaca-based artists and thinkers engage the local community with photography, drawings, sound installation, and film. On Wednesday, October 17th, the Galería hosts a discussion featuring Oaxaca artists Demián Flores, Antonio Turok, and Isabel Rojas.
