Halloween Lucifer's Hammer presents Metalween feat. Ludicra, Gravehill, and Splatterhouse

While heavy metal has long been a boys' club — with women typically typecast as either cover-art cheesecake or ditzy groupies — local gloom brigade Ludicra show that female-fronted metal doesn't end with Girlschool or solo Lita Ford. Christy Cather's barbed guitar runs and Laurie Sue Shanaman's banshee howls are black as pitch, yet the band consistently goes beyond death metal's typical buzz-and-pummel assault (which has earned them a rare place in the Alternative Tentacles roster). Rounding out tonight's special lineup are Gravehill and Splatterhouse, providing a grindcore amuse-bouche to Ludicra's more measured dirges.
