Art Jamie Vasta: Musn't

Anyone who's been keeping an eye on Patricia Sweetow Gallery during the past year or so must have noticed San Francisco-based Jamie Vasta's work tucked away in various group shows. With her representations of unnatural disasters, figures navigating tangled forests, and dim parking lots, the artist at once conjures the luminosity of Dutch-impressionist landscape paintings and comments on the media's representation of the sublime — not to mention the function of the image in a culture of photography. And did we mention her works are rendered in glitter? Vasta cannibalizes this altogether infamous craft accoutrement for her own glorious means, successfully dashing any summer-camp associations.
