Music: Rock/Pop Black Dice

When Brooklyn-based, Rhode Island School of Design-trained no-wavers Black Dice first started putting records out on DFA, it was under the shadow of the Rapture and LCD Soundsystem's dance-punk revolution. Black Dice couldn't have been expected to compete commercially, given the heady noise blanketing their compositions; four years later, however, it's clear that their forays into dance production were just part of their deeply idiosyncratic aesthetic development, impervious to anything as fickle as a zeitgeist. Black Dice, lately a trio, play in support of their latest full-length (the first on Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label), Load Blown, a rewarding collection of singles and new tracks.
