Without either breakneck blasts or Cookie Monster growls, Danzig is still known for making the beastliest music since Robert Johnson first howled at the moon. The one-time frontman of the Misfits and Samhain has segued from horror punk to metal while steadfastly sticking to his spare, blues-inflected style. Despite an embarrassing, much-YouTubed altercation with the singer of an unknown döuche-metal band, Danzig remains an undisputed heavy-metal god, who, at 52, seems as menacing as ever. After taking a few years off the road to focus on his classical project, the Evil Elvis summons a dark cloud of sinister, stripped-down rock over SF once again — the operative phrase being "stripped down," as in bare pectorals.
