Film Crazy Rays: Strain Andromeda The (1992)

Video artist Anne McGuire reverses Robert Wise's 1971 adaptation of Michael Crichton's bestselling science fiction potboiler, shot by shot, to create what she calls "a never-ending flashback." By re-assembling the film end to beginning (but with nothing running backwards), McGuire defuses the "race against time" pacing of the film's astronauts-versus-alien virus narrative. But even though we literally see what’s coming, the new film that emerges achieves a hypnotic propulsion all its own.
