Reading Eugene Robinson, V. Vale, and James Stark

Punk music and violence, whether cartoonishly depicted (The Ramones' "Beat on the Brat") or brutally meted out (see any chapter from Henry Rollins' Black Flag memoir Get in the Van) have long been squat-mates. Eugene Robinson is well versed in both: he's an avid fighter, both in and out of the ring, as well as the no-holds-barred frontman for heavy-rock group Oxbow. He can even string a sentence or two together: Robinson wrote a Summa Theologica for pugilists, Fight: Or, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ass-Kicking but Were Afraid You'd Get Your Ass Kicked for Asking. Tonight, he speaks with SF punk documentarian James Stark, who photographed much of the scene's storied mayhem.
