Music: Rock/Pop Dengue Fever w/ Rupa & the April Fishes

Thanks to their regular New Year's shows, Silverlake-by-way-of- Phnom Penh phenoms Dengue Fever have become perennial favorites. Fronted by the dazzling Khmer superstar Chhom Nimol, the band grinds retro Cambodian rock, Ethiopian jazz and surf guitar riffs into a potent, cross-cultural mix. Locals Rupa and the April Fishes similarly swirl together a mélange of musical traditions—tango, klezmar, and even ragas—into cabaret-inflected pop.
