Music: Rock/Pop Ramblin' Jack Elliott

Famously described as the missing link between Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, Ramblin' Jack Elliott has been howling folk blues for 50 years now, picking up a National Medal of the Arts in 1998 for his trouble. The cowboy-poet happens to be from Brooklyn (he was born Elliott Charles Adnopoz), but dedicated himself early on to the songs and lore of the open West, finding success touring the folk circuits of the early '60s. His voice has grown scratchy with age, but it only adds warmth to his witty, clear-eyed originals and the Guthrie covers he's been singing longer than Woody himself.
