Music: Rock/Pop Dead Western w/ Oaxacan and Woman's Worth

Sacramento's Dead Western is the musical moniker of Troy Mighty, a friendly gent who stretches his molasses baritone as if it were Silly Putty. Like Scott Walker played at half-speed, Dead Western's slow-mo ballads evoke a secret world of sensitive touch. Creepy at first, Mighty's voice wraps around you in unexpectedly moving ways over the course of a performance. Oaxacan open with their fierce maelstrom of clatter-rock: guitar gurgles and cymbal splashes topped with Amy Friebertshauser's caterwauling shrieks. Openers Woman's Worth don't have a vocalist, though the trio's fluttering free-jazz naturally complements this evening of unruly sounds.
