The Castro Theatre says…

The Castro screens a new 35mm restoration of Let's Get Lost, Bruce Weber's rapturous 1988 portrait of trumpet crooner Chet Baker. Once the epitome of '50s cool, Baker was a hollow shell of his former self when Weber found him, strung out on heroin, his icon dashed. Weber idolizes the jazzman on film — his ravishing, smoky black-and-white cinematography throws gauze over Baker's life and milieu, though Let's Get Lost doesn't have any illusions about the bitter cost of minor celebrity. It's a heavily romanticized portrait, of course, but it's also an undeniably gorgeous one, a silvery echo of the broke-down beauty of Jack Kerouac's prose.
