More Flavor: Sports Harlem Globetrotters

The last member of the original Harlem Globetrotters died last July, but the exhibition basketball team has played on long since the first rambunctious sportsmen started shooting hoops in 1927. Pivoting between pure athleticism and slapstick comedy, the ball crew has occupied a singular place in pop culture, gathering fans as varied as Bill Cosby, Henry Kissinger, and countless bewildered children. Even Pope John Paul II was made an honorary Globetrotter. The current team, featuring the bouncing, spinning, swishing skills of "Scooter" Christensen, "Moo Moo" Evans, and "Buckets" Blakes, will inspire a new generation of hoop dreamers when they hit the Oracle Arena.
