On a dark (and most-likely stormy) night, just before this year's Noir City Film Festival, authors and readers gather to discuss the celluloid genre's literary counterpart — the hardboiled crime novel. Arguing the literature's significance as a historical lens for viewing San Francisco's urban landscape, the assembled panel of authors (including Eddie Muller and Don Herron) share excerpts from stories featured in the San Francisco Noir series edited by Peter Maravelis. The evening's discussion is comoderated by crime novelist Peter Plate, who has written mysteries set in the Mission and the city's seedier corners.
