Dangerous is the aural terrain traversed by the Nice Guy Trio: in pulling from globe-spanning musical genres, the group tiptoes around the all-consuming chasm known as fusion. Darren Johnson (trumpet), Rob Reich (accordion), and Daniel Fabricant (bass) honed their worldly chops playing jazz spiced with klezmer, calypso, Afrobeat, and Balkan dance tunes as part of the Red Poppy Art House's resident artist program. The ensemble played with different guests at each performance and tonight's culminating lineup is a who's who of the Bay Area music community, with Ben Goldberg (clarinet), Meklit Hadero (voice), Smith Dobson (vibraphone and drums), David Phillips (pedal steel guitar), Dina Maccabee (violin), and Alex Kelley (cello) all sharing the stage.
