Music: Experimental The Dead C w/ Six Organs of Admittance

The Dead C emerged from the same early-'80s New Zealand scene as the Chills and the Clean, but the band quickly staked out distinct sonic terrain with its supercharged free-jazz interpretations of punk music. The group is often compared to Sonic Youth for the way it spans the chasm separating traditional song structure from pure noise, but the Dead C are more resolutely underground than their Lower East Side brethren, with releases that slip in and out of print and an infrequent touring schedule. The fiery trio played San Francisco a few years ago, but noise fans relish a second helping from these heavyweights.
