Fronted by the dazzling Chhom Nimol, Dengue Fever grind up retro Cambodian rock, Ethiopian jazz, and driving surf-guitar riffs, then mix the ingredients into a potent cross-cultural cocktail. The band recently added songs with English lyrics to its repertoire — its first two albums were recorded entirely in Khmer — but no matter the language, Nimol's vocals make an emotional impact. Bimbo's swanky supper-club atmosphere is the perfect venue for Dengue Fever's notoriously raucous array of '60s-era Khmer-pop covers and Farfisa-drenched originals.
