Though he's now best known for scoring films for Disney's Pixar (or perhaps for being lampooned in an apocalyptic episode of Family Guy), Randy Newman's career as a songwriter is as remarkable as it is prolific. Born into a family of film-score composers, Newman began songwriting professionally at 18. Over the next two decades, he established himself as a singular talent with a series of scathingly satirical albums that continue to receive critical acclaim. In his best work, Newman's husky voice and brilliant piano arrangements help him deliver an inimitable brand of cultural criticism.
