Hailed as one of the unknown heroes of rock and roll, Roky Erickson has influenced countless musicians, from Robert Plant to Thurston Moore. He began as guitar player and songwriter for the 13th Floor Elevators, one of the first psychedelic rock bands, then went on to produce an outstanding solo repertoire of garage-y blues ballads. Erickson's cult-hero status is equal parts musical innovation and personal tragedy, as several bouts in psychiatric institutions left him out of the spotlight for much of his career. The most recent Austin City Limits Festival marked Erickson's first concert in two decades, and his limited tour of the West Coast is sure to be history in the making.
