London-based group the Herbaliser have been crafting jazz-hop fusion tracks since the mid '90s. While these longtime Ninja Tune signees have collaborated with MCs like Jean Grae, Roots Manuva, and MF Doom to perfect their timeless sound, their just-released 9th LP, Same As It Never Was, features only one vocalist: 22-year-old powerhouse Jessica Darling. The crew opts to perform live with both turntables and instrumentalists, appeasing hip-hop heads and funky drummers alike. Tonight they are supported by turtablist supreme DJ Shortkut, whose technically flawless, creative scratching has made him one of the masters of the instrument.
