Sticks and stones may break your bones, but the experimentalists in Thuja prefer to use them as instruments. In addition to a variety of traditional noise making devices — piano, organ, percussion, and numerous stringed instruments — these local improvisers use branches, rocks, and various other natural detritus to create brooding, psychedelic wanderings that lie somewhere between Double Leopards and Grails. And like Bigfoot or the Bunyip, Thuja appear on stage only once in a blue moon, so fans of the sonically outré won't want to miss this rare appearance as part of the Lab's Relay exhibit.
