San Francisco has long been an enclave for the genderqueer and fabulous — from cross-dressing Coit Tower benefactress Lillie Hitchcock-Coit to the trannies that stood up to police harassment at the Compton Cafeteria riot. So, it's only fitting that our city should also be the home to Tranny Fest, the country's leading transgender performing arts and film festival. A night of live performances kicks off this year's fest, with acts ranging from tap dancers to powerful singer/songwriters, while the next two nights consist of the ever-popular film screenings: Gender Apocalypse, a shorts showcase, and Pocket Rockets, which explores love, lust, and sex.
